FRESH art club for children

At Fresh, we are very much a club and not a classroom

All styles of working are encouraged and supported – our focus is all about giving the children creative freedom, a chance to relax and enjoy themselves and to give them a sense of pride and satisfaction in their work.

Our main aim is to support and help inspire each child to explore their own creativity, giving them the freedom to work in their own way and at their own pace. We provide a space where children can socially interact, make friends and really feel free to have a go at something new and different. During their sessions they will try out and explore a wide variety of different and exciting techniques, materials and themes.

Every 2–3 weeks, we look at a new theme – this could be taking inspiration from famous artists, world events and festivals, or looking at different art forms or media that the children may have not come across before. We spend some time looking at visual sources for inspiration and discussion, demonstrate a project based on the theme, and then we get to work! At the end of a project we spend time looking at each other's work and discussing what we like and why.

We recognise that some children will want lots of support, supervision and guidance, whilst others might prefer to work more independently, and to explore the theme in their own way.

FRESH Foundations

Ealing-based weekly evening art sessions for 13–15 year-olds.

Launching September 2021

Join like-minded students in a relaxed, social art space. You will try a wide range of fun and inspiring techniques and materials that aim to support and develop creative ideas, techniques and practice.

Making art and expressing yourself is a great way to grow confidence and is proven to reduce anxiety and depression. Being creative with other people is also a brilliant way to make new friends and get out and about.

Carrying on the 'club not classroom' ethos from our established and popular art club for 6–12 year-olds, FRESH Foundations introduces some more focused art practices into the usual creative mix with the help of local practising artist and tutor Vicky Saumarez, who has taught at The Royal Academy, City Academy and took part in Sky Arts' Portrait Artist of the Year 2020.

“Art has always been my ‘thing’ ever since I can remember – the world around me and the people I meet are a constant sources of inspiration. I consider this creativity a privilege, and aim to seek out and nurture that spark of creativity in those I am fortunate enough to teach.”

Anna Bhowmick
Founder, FRESH Art Club

Anna gained a BA (Hons) Surface Pattern and Printed Textiles Degree at Leeds College of Art and Design, and went on to work in fashion and retail, focusing on the creative aspects of buying, visual merchandising and display. She then qualified as teaching assistant, and has experience of working in both primary and high schools.

In 2013, Anna began running popular and lively lunchtime and after-school art clubs for primary school children. From these beginnings, FRESH has grown into a packed programme of after-school, weekend and holiday art clubs.

Launching in Autumn term 2021 are more focused art practice sessions for high school students (age 13–15 years). FRESH Foundations delves deeper into technique and will support students working towards GCSE art and design.

FRESH has developed a new programme of creative nights out for grown-ups, running from May 2021. There's something for everyone, whether complete beginners or creative types wanting to learn a new technique. Textiles, printmaking, jewellery and more... there's a fabulous variety of creative activities lined up.

As a mum of two, Anna is great at pinpointing projects and activities that work for children of all ages. She is fully DBS-checked and is certified by St John Ambulance in Essential First Aid for children and infants.

My daughter loves Anna’s art club. It’s a real highlight in her week. Anna has introduced her to lots of techniques and materials – she’s learning so much while also having loads of fun. Anna is so good at coming up with projects for the kids that use simple skills to achieve really striking, colourful pieces of art. My daughter has been really proud of everything she has made in the club, which is testament to how confident Anna makes her students feel even when they are trying new things. Thank you, Anna!

Abigail Le Fleming

My son says Anna’s classes are really fun. The children get to learn new techniques every week as well as learning about famous artists. My son loves her art club.

Chelsea Domeij

I loved having some creative space, and learning something new. My prints are framed and have pride of place at home! Will definitely book another Creative Nights Out session... or three.

Ally Moran

My daughter has been attending Anna’s art club at Grange Primary School for a couple of years and has absolutely loved it. She was one of the original attendees at that club and each term is keen to return.

She has come home with many creative pieces of work of which she is very proud and has learned new techniques that I often find her practising at home.

Thanks, Anna – good luck with Fresh Art Club, I’m sure it will be a great success!

Emily Courtney

My daughter loves going to Fresh art club with Anna. She has learnt a lot of new techniques and is enjoying exploring her creative side in a supportive environment. It’s a wonderful opportunity to introduce children to art whilst having lots of fun.
